30 Years and Still Going

A Company History

Robert Gilmore Sr.

Robert Gilmore, Sr.

Bob Gilmore Sr. bought his ServiceMaster carpet cleaning franchise back in the early 70’s when the youngest of his three boys was just 11 years old. He developed his business into one of the most well respected in the area.

Attention to detail was paramount to Mr. Gilmore. When he cleaned a carpet he would move every piece of furniture in the room. In addition, he would wipe down the hard furnishings, both front and back.

Then he’d clean the wall in back of the furniture as a courtesy to the customer. But he didn’t stop there. If the sidewalk outside was cluttered with debris, he would sweep it clean and make it tidy.

He brought those principles with him when he expanded the business to include cleaning homes and businesses affected by fire and water damage. His young apprentices, (sons Steven, Michael and Bob Gilmore), worked after school and weekends to help their dad. They often asked why they had to be so thorough. Mr. Gilmore replied, “because it is the right thing to do.”

When the boys grew up, they bought the business from their dad and decided to specialize in disaster restoration cleaning. Before they took over, Mr. Gilmore gave them one more piece of advice.

Take care of your customers. Treat them like you would your own family and you will be successful.

1982 Toasting To Our New Business!

Starting with one truck and three employees (themselves), the Gilmore Brothers set out to follow in their father’s footsteps. They worked hard and tried to get the word out about their business to the Insurance and Property Management Industry they served.

Early on, they distinguished themselves by providing exceptional quality service and immediate response. Over the years, they developed their business into one of the largest ServiceMaster franchises in the United States. They have won numerous awards for excellence including the top honor awarded to a ServiceMaster franchise, the prestigious Marion E. Wade Award.

Michael, who left the business in the 1990’s, was an integral part of the success of the company. His untimely passing in 2005 was a huge loss for the Gilmore family. However Michael’s spirit lives on in the family’s commitment to their employees and their customers. The positive attitude he displayed in life continues to be a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew him.

Four Children: Bobby, Mark, Jennifer and Steven

Mr. Gilmore still offers his advice, but this time it’s his grandchildren who are asking! They represent the third generation involved in the business. In 2000, Steven’s daughter Jennifer joined the company. She was followed two years later by her brother Steven Jr., and Bob’s two son’s Mark and Bobby.

Bobby, Mark, Jennifer and Steven Gilmore Jr. work closely with their fathers and key company personnel to learn the business. They pledge to provide the same exceptional quality of service our customers have come to expect, and to honor the work ethic set forth by their grandfather Robert Gilmore Sr., when he started the business over 30 years ago.
